2026 CRRA-TBGSA Recreation Softball League

Welcome to Thunder Bay Girls Softball Association, home of the only all-girls softball league in Thunder Bay! We are a community-based recreational fastpitch league dedicated to creating a fun, safe, and supportive environment for players of all skill levels. Our league follows the rules and guidelines of Softball Canada and our League’s House Rules to ensure quality play, development, and sportsmanship.

Our Vision
To inspire a lifelong love of softball by empowering girls to play with confidence, build strong friendships, and reach their full potential both on and off the field.

Our Mission
To provide an inclusive and positive space where girls can learn the game of softball, develop their skills, grow in confidence, meet new friends, and most importantly, have fun while being part of a supportive community.

Information About the TBGSA League
  • We are a community sport and recreation league.
  • We are a fastpitch softball league, which means it is windmill pitching. Not all pitchers need to know how to pitch windmill style. This can be taught throughout the season.
  • The season lasts about 6 weeks and runs from mid-May to early July. The start date is determined by the weather.
  • The season consists of regular league games and wraps up with a week-long tournament that includes round-robin pool play plus a play-off bracket.
  • It is important that players are committed to playing the full season by attending all games and practices, as well as the tournament.
  • Games are played Monday – Thursday, depending on your division.
  • Practices are held on the weekends (Friday – Sunday) and determined by the coach.
  • Rescheduled games are played on Sunday evenings or late afternoon.
  • 2026 TBGSA Information Package

We know things happen; the last game is played, and the season is over. You walk away from the ballpark in your uniform and then forget about it. That’s OK! We understand.

However, we’d really like every uniform loaned out in the PW and BL divisions to be returned…even if it means from a few years ago! Returning jerseys/uniforms helps to keep costs down and maintain full team sets.

Have an old jersey/uniform that needs to be returned? No problem! Please return any outstanding jerseys/uniforms to the Current River Community Centre:

  • Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 3:00 pm (regular business hours)
  • Saturday, March 7th between 11:00 am – 1:00 pm (during in-person registration)
  • Wednesday, March 11th between 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm (during in-person registration)
  • Saturday, March 28th between 11:00 am – 1:00 pm (during in-person registration)

It opened on March 1, 2026, and closed once each division was at capacity. We opened a waitlist, which is now closed.

Save the Date! The tournament is scheduled for June 28 – July 5, 2026 (excluding June 30 & July 1).

Umpires are necessary for the TBGSA season to be successful. Without enough umpires we cannot play. Every year, the league struggles to get enough umpires, and we hope you will consider being an umpire this season.

  • Training and mentorship are provided.
  • Umpires are paid per game.
  • New this season: We are looking for Umpire-in-Chiefs for each division to recruit, schedule, train, and mentor the umpires. The Umpire-in-Chief will work alongside the Divisional Convenors to clarify, instruct, and interpret the rules of the game.

There will be a new coaching policy for this season. Here are some important highlights for interested coaches:

  • The Coaches Meeting & Draft is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 6:30 pm at the Current River Rec Centre. Mark your calendars.
  • Each coaching roster will consist of a maximum of 4 adults: one Head Coach (Manager), two Assistant Coaches, and 1 scorekeeper.
  • There must be at least one female included in the coaching roster.
  • The league will initially assign the Head Coach and 1 Assistant Coach, and they will be responsible for building their team at the Coaches Meeting. The second assistant coach and scorekeeper will be determined once the teams are built.
  • Only coaches listed on the coaching roster will be allowed in the dugout.
  • Coaches will be identified by their lanyard and must wear their lanyard ID during all games while in the dugout.
  • Coaches are not allowed to coach solo.
  • Players cannot be coaches in their division.
  • Either the Head Coach or Assistant Coach must have a vulnerable sector check and will need to provide this to the league.
  • Interested in coaching? Awesome. Please email tbaygsa@gmail.com to see if there is availability in your division.

Parking has become a safety concern. Do not park on both sides of Dewe Street, as it blocks the road and access to the Current River Community Centre. Traffic, including emergency vehicles, must be able to get through safely. Do not park on the grass, double park, or block entrances. Additional parking is available at the arena lot off Grenville Ave. If your player is playing at diamonds #1 or #2 we strongly recommend parking at the arena. If your player is playing at diamond #5, we suggest parking at Boulevard and using the path to get to the diamond.

TBGSA reminds all spectators to abide by the Respect in Sport policy.

  • Unsportsmanlike conduct towards any player, coach, team, umpire, or TBGSA Board member will not be tolerated at games or practices.
  • Failure to conduct yourself in a respectful manner will result in being removed from the game and/or ballpark.
  • Abusive, derogatory, or harassing language or behaviour will not be tolerated at any time and incidences will be brought to the TBSGA Board to determine whether or not the player, coach, spectator or parent will be removed from the league.
  • Please do not ruin the experience for others by behaving poorly.
  • Be kind. Be respectful. Be supportive. Be positive. Be encouraging. Be a good human.
  • There is no sitting directly behind home plate or by the dugouts. Spectators must view the game from the sides.
  • Only coaches on the coaching roster and players are allowed in the dugout and on the field. Parents, friends, and spectators are not allowed in the dugouts or fields
